People initially prefer over the counter medicines for hemorrhoid treatment  like suppositories, creams and ointments not knowing that these are providing only symptomatic relief and cure of hemorrhoids is not possible with these medicines. These medicines having numbing effect and mostly contain a steroid to reduce inflammation and local swelling. Hence are not suitable for long term use.

For initiating the medical treatment the doctor examines the hemorrhoid condition and based on degree of hemorrhoid initiates the treatment along with necessary precautions.

In case it is a prolapsed internal hemorrhoid these are required to be pushed in the anus in doctor’s clinic observing presence of sterile environment and material used in pushing. The doctor helping to push the hemorrhoid is wearing sterilized gloves and puts on mask on his mouth and nostrils to prevent infection taking place by the procedure. The prolapsed hemorrhoid is gently pushed maintaining constant pressure.

In case the hemorrhoid is swollen and is trapped outside the anus the situation calls for surgical help to resolve the problem.
